No jargon, no assumptions. Here are the questions almost everyone has at the start, answered the way we would want them answered for ourselves.
What is startup investing?
It is committing capital to a young private company in exchange for a small ownership stake. If the company grows and succeeds over the years, your stake can become worth more. Unlike buying stock in a public company, you are backing a business early, before most people have heard of it.
Why is it risky?
Young companies are unproven. Many do not work out, and when one fails you can lose the capital you committed. Your investment is also illiquid. It can be years before there is any way to sell it, if ever. That is the honest trade-off: real potential, real risk. Only invest capital you can afford to leave untouched, and never more than you are prepared to lose.
What does accreditation mean?
For many private deals, regulators require investors to meet certain income or net-worth thresholds, being an 'accredited' or otherwise eligible investor. It is a rule about who is permitted to participate, not a measure of your ability. Some opportunities are limited to accredited investors. We will always be clear about eligibility up front.
How much do I need?
Less than most people assume. Part of what we do is let you participate at a size that fits your situation, deal by deal, rather than the large minimums that traditionally kept individuals out. There is no obligation to invest in any given opportunity.
